“For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.” Romans 8:6

In recovery we have (hopefully) learned a few Christian Listening Skills™ so we know to hold our tongue when we feel resentment snaking up our spine. But what about our thoughts? Do we know what to do with them?

God made us in His image. Yes, we are animals at our core, but we are so much more. We create things. We have free will. We can think for ourselves. Sadly, our minds often defy God. We think thoughts that are unkind, judgmental, or self-centered. Our minds are influenced by things of this world, and not of God.

Jesus can change our thoughts. He can fill us with His spirit, His peace. All we have to do is to set our minds onto Him. We open our hearts and souls to Him. We let Him lead the way. “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Romans 12:12) Jesus transforms and renews our minds. Give your thoughts to Him. Let His peace wash over you. Let it fill you up.
