“So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!” (1 Corinthians 10:12)

We grow more confident in our ability to remain clean and sober as time goes by. The urge to turn to our drug of choice slowly fades away. We engage in life again. Some of us *almost* forget what it was like back when we were drinking or using. We may even question if we really had a problem. We seem like normal folks now.

We can’t get complacent in our recovery. We have to always remember that we are fundamentally different than our fellows. Even in the grace of sobriety, we must be on guard for the slippery slopes that can lead us back out into the dark world we once inhabited. We get a daily reprieve from our addiction, nothing more. Giving our lives over to the care of God, every day, helps us avoid the slippery slopes. We can trust that God won’t lead us into more temptation that we can bear. We can trust Him with our lives, for He is the one who gave them to us!
