“And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.” 1 Corinthians 2:13

My friend and mentor, Os Hillman wisely wrote, “One of the great tragedies of the Christian life is that if we fail to enter into a relationship with God that is born of the Holy Spirit, we are left with a religion, not a relationship.” I must confess that I was guilty of having a religion, not a relationship, for many years. It wasn’t until I repented, put God first, and became fully reliant on Him every day, that the Holy Spirit began to work in my life. I now have a very close, and deep relationship with God. It feels glorious.

There are two ways to live your life. You can live in the realm of the flesh (Romans 8:9) with its list of issues, (Galatians 5:19-21) or you can live in the realm of the Spirit (Galatians 5:25). Life is richer and fuller when you walk in the Spirit. You instantly cut out the noise from the cacophony of the world. You know what is important to focus on. You aren’t so easily distracted. Decisions that used to baffle you are easily decided, because the Holy Spirit is there to guide you.

Jesus walked in the Spirit, of course. He performed miracles with the power of the Holy Spirit. He redeemed us so we can have the power of the Holy Spirit in our own lives. (Galatians 3:14) If you are saved, you are eligible for receiving the Holy Spirit. The unsaved live in the world of the flesh, and neither see Him or know Him. (John 14:17)

What do we need to do to accept the gift of the Spirit? “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:38). What can the power of the Holy Spirit do for you? The Holy Spirit teaches us, leads us, convicts us, and equips us to do His work and spread the gospel.

The choice is always ours to make. We can choose to live our lives in the the flesh or we can walk in the Spirit. The gift of the Spirit is waiting for us to claim it. Jesus gave it to us, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.” John 14:26-27

Will you choose to walk in the flesh or will you walk in the Spirit?
