“That people may know, from the rising of the sun and from the west, that there is none besides me; I am the Lord, and there is no other. I form light and create darkness, I make well-being and create calamity, I am the Lord, who does all these things.”(Isaiah 45:6-7)
This morning when I woke up, I heard the familiar ping from my Iphone as an email landed in my inbox. It was from a marketing expert with the subject bar stating, “Read this.” So I did. I reached over to the nightstand to put the phone down when I heard the Facebook notification sound. I clicked onto my newsfeed and watched the video someone had shared. Before I knew it, I clicked onto Youtube to watch a few videos. I had to wait through the ads before I viewed them. The ads instructed me to buy a new car that would make me the envy of my neighbors and a new perfume that would make me more alluring. I felt a bit “less than” for a moment as I have very plain Jane car and I don’t really care if I am alluring or not. “Maybe I don’t fit in,” I worried. “Wait a minute,” I thought to myself. “Am I playing follow the leader here?”
I put my phone down and got back to starting my day the way I usually do, by giving my will and my life over to the care of God. I asked God to be my leader today. I don’t need to do what everyone wants me to do. I don’t have to read an email attachment, watch a Facebook video, or buy what I’m told will make me better or “fit in”. I don’t have to follow along with man’s idea of what is important. I can turn to God for His Guidance as to what is important. Learning to discern His will for me is a powerful and important part of my development as a human being. (Romans 12:2)
God is my Creator. He is in control of His creation. I bow down to His sovereignty. I put Him first. I don’t have to be pulled and swayed by what is going on in the world. (1 John 2:15) I choose God to be my leader.
F.R..O.G. Practice: Be mindful today of how often you get pulled to do things without thinking. Become more conscious of who and what you follow. Give your life over to God and let God lead you.
