Those of us who have been harmed by a benzo are probably the only people who truly care about getting the laws around long term prescription use changed.
We are the ones who care about raising our voices over the din of profits so the FDA can hear us.
I’ll be sending the petition to the FDA in June. I’ll keep you posted.
Dear Dr. Jenn:
I have been writing about my journey thru benzo withdrawal for a while now. I’ve so been hoping to connect with you. If you are interested, would you consider leaving a note on my blog – or replying to this email? I’d really appreciate it. AT nearly 10 months off benzos, I sure could use some support. And I hope to be able to support you in your endeavors.

Unfortunately, that is the truth! Virtually no one except us that is in withdrawal and have been damaged from long term benzo use really think it is a serious matter. Although, I hope this medication gets banned from long term use, I seriously doubt it will, for one simple reason: There is too much money involved for the Big Pharma to ban it for long term use! The bottom line is: Drs. Government, etc.. do care but not If its going to interfere with their money!! We all can bank on that! That’s why we really need to see for each other because Drs etc… always put money before us!!
Good idea and like that. Funny, I was with a therapist as I have 2 for now until benefits close and she was trying to diagnose me with a mental illness. I was frustrated with that and told her as I feel an example 4 drs to learn and research withdrawals..and they are worse than any illness they predicted..but if theyre professionals and want to help, dont cover it up with benzos and other rx’s..that their $$ hungry n lazy to see all possibilities of how destructive even a short while taking them can be..if that makes sense as we all struggle tho we”re stronger each day and knowlegable..thanks for this Jennifer. Always, wishes for all and you in recovery : )
Jenn,
Have you gotten enough signatures on the petition to send to the FDA?
Last count was over 600. I’d like more, but I don’t have the time to send it out to more social networks. If anyone wants to see if they can gain more signatures, feel free!
You may be right Brian, but at least we can try, right?
I won’t feel good about myself unless I try SOMETHING to bring awareness to the FDA and the doctors who write the scripts. I know its going to take some time to educate everyone. Doctors used to think people with MS were malingering. One day they will understand our illness was caused by the damage done to the brain because of the benzos.
Jenn, I agree its great to be proactive about a matter of importance, I also like the fact that you are trying to make a concerted effort in doing so! Like you stated, If it fails, then at least you can say you tried and that’s important.
We all know that this benzo medication is a very old drug, and its not front page news anymore that it has and still does cause more damage long term than it actually helps. For years it was the number one prescribed drug in the world raking in billions and still does. I applaud your effort as well as everyone else but I’ve came to realize that our world doesn’t do anything unless there is money involved somewhere.
