I stop.

Put my hands on my hips,
pout.
I raise my voice into a thin reedy whine:

“I don’t want to do this anymore!”

God leans down.

Wraps his arms around me.
Pulls me gently to his chest.

“I know. I know,” he murmurs.

He wipes the single tear that has
found its way out of my eye
off of my cheek.

“I know. I know,” he whispers softly.

“But this is the way.
C’mon, I’ll carry you if you are too tired.”
and he lifts me up onto his strong back.
