“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19

Did you know that God has a limit on His obligation to us? He’s not obligated to give us a shiny new car, a better job, more money, or a bigger house. He doesn’t have to give us the things that we want. God gives us the things that we need. That is His only obligation to us.

What is it that we need, exactly? We need food and shelter. We need God’s forgiveness, love and grace. Can we rest assured that our needs will be fulfilled? Of course! We are so special to God. Matthew 6:26 reminds us that God takes care of His birds and we are even more valuable than they are. Matthew 6:14 reminds us that God forgives us. John 3:16 tells us how much God loves us. God is always with us. “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 3:16 )

God’s obligations to us are the very things we need to live whole, healthy and happy lives. He gives us all we need to thrive in life and to thrive in our recovery. Let us be glad for the things God gives us. Let us rejoice that our creator takes such good care of us!

F.R.O.G. Practice: Think about all that God has done to fulfill your needs. Give thanks. Let go of desires or wants that make you resentful or anxious. Trust that God keeps His obligations.
