Genesis 2:18 “It is not good for the man to be alone.”

In today’s world, we text, email, tweet, post and pin. We share a great deal of information about ourselves. We seem to have a lot of relationships, but the truth is, we often feel alone and lonely. Online relationships don’t fulfill the deep human need to  sit with someone and talk and to listen. It doesn’t fulfill the need to hug each others.

It is clear that God didn’t design humans to be lone wolves. We do much better in the company of other people that we know and trust. Neuroscientists have shown that our brains not only function better when we are around people we trust, they actually change for the better!

Not only do our brains change for the better when we are in the company of others we trust, they change for the better when we are in a relationship with God. God doesn’t want us to be alone, isolated from others and isolated from Him.

How do we create healthy relationships with each other and with God? It begins with learning how to listen. We have to humble ourselves and put aside our egos. We must put our focus on others and on God.

Take time today to be with others. Turn off your cell phone and focus your attention on them. Take time today to give God your attention too. Be still and listen to what He has to say to you.
